How To Make Your Can Am Maverick R, X3 Or Polaris RZR Pro XP, XP 1000 More Comfortable

Do you feel beat up by washboard metal roads, dunes, or a long day on farm tracks? A harsh and bumpy ride is usually just a spring and valving problem.

Why Stock Suspension Feels Harsh Here

Factory suspension is a one-size-fits-all compromise between safety, quality and cost for the average rider on the average trail. Springs and valving that work "okay" for most riders and most terrain will not work when you add a winch, custom cage, a passenger and a full tank and take your UTV on a South Island tour. New Zealand's corrugated metal roads, rutted farm tracks and wet sand dunes, can all feel harsh, chattery, or cause bottoming-out if your suspension isn't properly tuned.

What Actually Fixes It

Comfort comes from matching spring rate to your actual loaded weight and tuning the shock valving for your speed and default trails. We install spring kits set up for higher weights and firmer hits, often replacing factory springs that have sagged out. Our suspension tuning optimises for low-speed compression to make the washboard and pot-holed trails feel smoother.

If you are a more aggressive rider, then we recommend firming up the valve tuning for both compression and rebound so that your shocks can compensate at higher speeds. This sometimes means that your low-speed riding doesn't feel as good, but your race-pace is far more sustainable.

Trail comfort and a race setup are tuned in opposite directions. If you mostly cruise, tell us that up front.

In a lot of cases, "good" suspension tuning is a matter of opinion. We will work with you to find the right setup, starting with the easiest, cheapest changes and working from there. We will continue to offer advice and adjustments so you achieve your perfect ride.
